Description
The 690R is a compact fiber optic receiver that restores two SDI video channels transmitted over single-mode fiber. It converts optical signals back to SDI and supports SDI, HD-SDI and 3G HD-SDI formats. The unit is designed for broadcast and professional A/V systems where long-distance transmission and signal integrity are required.
Key features include support for up to 3Gbps per channel and compatibility with SMPTE 259M, 292M, 344M and 424M standards. The receiver accepts dual single-mode LC fiber inputs and provides two SDI BNC outputs. Kramer Equalization and re-Klocking technology rebuilds and stabilizes the digital signal for extended coax cable runs.
Performance specifications include support for 3Gbps bandwidth per input and fiber extension ranges up to 10km for 3G-SDI. The unit provides cable equalization enabling up to 200m on SDI and 100m on 3G-SDI coax runs. Power is supplied by a 5V DC adapter drawing approximately 350mA.
Connectivity is straightforward with two LC single-mode inputs and two BNC SDI outputs. The 690R is compatible with the Kramer 690T transmitter and the VS-88FO fiber matrix. Rack mounting is possible – four TOOLS units can be mounted side-by-side in 1U using the RK-4PT adapter.
Typical applications include live production, OB vans, broadcast studios and house-of-worship installs requiring long-distance SDI links. It is suitable for signal distribution where preserving SMPTE-compliant SDI formats over fiber is necessary. The small footprint and professional connectors make it practical for dense rack or field deployments.
Installation is simple and requires minimal configuration – connect fiber and SDI coax and apply 5V DC power. The compact metal housing is built for daily professional use and supports continuous operation in standard A/V environments. LED indicators and robust connectors facilitate reliable field use and maintenance.
