Description
The ATEM 2 M/E Constellation UHD 4K Live Production Switcher adds UHD 4K capabilities and 12G-SDI ports to the familiar switcher construction of its predecessor. Designed for powerful live event UHD 4K switching, the unit features 20 individual 12G-SDI inputs that support 12G/3G/HD-SDI signals and deliver them to 12 12G-SDI outputs or webcam USB-C output. In addition, the switcher has a multiview output with up to 16 routable windows that can display inputs, keyed video, graphics, and stills from the media pool, as well as the program output. Each input connects to a built-in Fairlight audio mixer supporting up to 28 channels of audio.The switcher features a reference video input, and each input features a frame synchronizer, frame rate converter, and format converter. This allows you to mix and match cameras, formats, cameras that do not feature genlock, and video input from computer sources. Upstream and downstream keyers and effects are supported. All this is done live and in real time with no rendering required. You can control the switcher using the integrated front panel, optional Blackmagic ATEM panels, or via the downloadable control software.
Broadcast-Quality Transitions
The ATEM Constellation UHD 4K includes a wide range of broadcast-quality native transitions such as mix, dip, wipe, and more. All transitions can be customized in the system control menus with adjustments for border color, border width, position, direction, and more. The switcher includes a powerful digital video effects processor for DVE transitions, which can be used to squeeze the current picture offscreen, revealing a new video under it. The DVE can also create graphic wipe transitions. A preview transition feature lets you set up transitions before going live.
Built-In DVE
The ATEM Constellation features two independent DVEs that let you reposition graphics and create picture-in-picture compositions in real time. The DVE supports position, resize, and scale, along with customizable 3D borders, shadows, and lighting. DVEs can also create dynamic transitions such as squeeze and swoosh effects. The 2 M/E model includes SuperSource processors for six DVEs.
SuperSource
The 2 M/E model includes powerful SuperSource multilayer processors with four extra DVE layers plus a background layer, appearing as an additional input source. Any video input can be used for each layer, combined over a custom background from the media pool. This is ideal for picture-in-picture interview layouts while keeping main DVEs free.
Multiview
Configurable to 16, 13, 10, 7, or 4 views. It includes monitoring of program, preview, inputs, media players, DSK, and clean feed with optional labels and audio meters. The 2 M/E model features two multiview outputs.
Professional Broadcast Talkback
Built-in talkback supports a 5-pin XLR headset connector and RJ12 connector for systems like ClearCom or RTS. Features include program and engineering loops, sidetone control, and program mix. SDI talkback uses channels 15 and 16 for communication with compatible cameras, and channels 13 and 14 for engineering talkback. Talkback audio can also be mixed into the program output.
Internal Media Pool
The built-in media pool stores broadcast-quality RGBA graphics and animations for instant playback via media players. The 2 M/E model supports 40 stills and 400-frame animations. Media can be managed using ATEM Software Control or imported directly from Photoshop via plugin.
Chroma Keyers
Includes advanced chroma keying with color picker, edge and flare adjustments, and foreground color correction for seamless compositing. Supports pattern and DVE keying. The 2 M/E model includes eight Advanced Keyers and four upstream keyers per M/E row for virtual set creation.
Multi-Rate 12G-SDI
With 20 multi-rate 12G-SDI connections, the switcher supports UHD and HD formats including 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 2160p. Embedded audio is supported, and outputs include talkback, tally, and camera control for full production integration.
Fairlight Audio Mixer
All SDI inputs connect to a built-in Fairlight audio mixer with 6-band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, noise gate, and expander. Supports up to 156 input channels, including analog and talkback sources. Audio can be controlled via software or compatible hardware panels.
ATEM Software Control Panel
Control the switcher via software with a visual interface for switching, audio, camera control, media, macros, and HyperDeck integration. Multiple users can connect via Ethernet. Settings can be saved as XML and media backed up. Compatible with macOS and Windows.
Optional Control Panels
Compatible with ATEM Advanced Panels featuring M/E-style layouts, LCD screens, customizable buttons, joystick control, and T-bar fader. Models range from 1 M/E to 4 M/E configurations with increasing input capacity and control options.
