Description
The ATEM 2 M/E Constellation UHD 4K Live Production Switcher adds UHD 4K capabilities and 12G-SDI ports to the familiar switcher construction of its predecessor. Designed for powerful live event UHD 4K switching, the unit features 20 individual 12G-SDI inputs that support 12G/3G/HD-SDI signals and deliver them to 12 12G-SDI outputs or webcam USB-C output. In addition, the switcher has a multiview output with up to 16 routable windows that can display inputs, keyed video, graphics, and stills from the media pool, as well as the program output. Each input connects to a built-in Fairlight audio mixer supporting up to 28 channels of audio.The switcher features a reference video input, and each input includes a frame synchronizer, frame rate converter, and format converter. This allows you to mix and match cameras, formats, non-genlocked cameras, and computer video sources. Upstream and downstream keyers and effects are supported, all processed live in real time with no rendering required. Control is available via the integrated front panel, optional Blackmagic ATEM panels, or downloadable software.
Broadcast-Quality Transitions
The ATEM Constellation UHD 4K includes a wide range of broadcast-quality native transitions such as mix, dip, wipe, and more. All transitions can be customized with adjustments for border color, width, position, and direction. A powerful DVE processor enables dynamic transitions like squeeze effects and graphic wipes. A preview transition feature allows setup before going live to reduce errors.
Built-In DVE
Two independent DVEs allow repositioning of graphics and creation of picture-in-picture compositions in real time. Features include position, resize, and scale, along with customizable 3D borders, shadows, and lighting. DVEs also enable dynamic transitions such as squeeze and swoosh effects. The 2 M/E model includes SuperSource processors supporting up to six DVEs.
SuperSource
SuperSource multilayer processors provide four additional DVE layers plus a background layer, functioning as an extra input source. Any video input can be assigned to each layer and combined over a custom background from the media pool. Ideal for interviews and multi-box layouts while keeping main DVEs free.
Multiview
Configurable layouts include 16, 13, 10, 7, or 4 views. Monitor program, preview, inputs, media players, DSK, and clean feed with labels and audio meters. The 2 M/E model includes two multiview outputs.
Professional Broadcast Talkback
Built-in talkback supports 5-pin XLR headsets and RJ12 connections for systems like ClearCom or RTS. Features include program and engineering loops, sidetone control, and program mix. SDI talkback uses channels 15/16 for communication and 13/14 for engineering. Talkback audio can also be mixed into program output.
Internal Media Pool
Stores broadcast-quality RGBA graphics and animations for instant playback via media players. The 2 M/E model supports 40 stills and 400-frame animations. Media management is available via ATEM Software Control or Photoshop plugin integration.
Chroma Keyers
Advanced chroma keyer includes a color picker, edge and flare adjustments, and foreground color correction for seamless compositing. Supports pattern and DVE keying. Includes eight Advanced Keyers and four upstream keyers per M/E row for virtual sets and multi-camera compositions.
Multi-Rate 12G-SDI
Supports up to 20 multi-rate 12G-SDI connections compatible with UHD and HD formats including 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 2160p. Embedded audio is supported, and outputs include talkback, tally, and camera control for full production workflows.
Fairlight Audio Mixer
Built-in Fairlight audio mixer connects all SDI inputs and includes 6-band parametric EQ, compressor, limiter, noise gate, and expander. Supports up to 156 input channels, including analog and talkback sources. Control is available via software or compatible hardware panels.
ATEM Software Control Panel
Software provides a visual interface for switching, audio mixing, camera control, media management, macros, and HyperDeck integration. Multiple users can connect via Ethernet. Save configurations as XML and back up media. Compatible with macOS and Windows.
Optional Control Panels
Compatible with ATEM Advanced Panels featuring M/E-style layouts, LCD screens, customizable buttons, joystick, and T-bar fader. Models range from 1 M/E to 4 M/E configurations with increasing input capacity and control options.
