Description
The CLS-AOCU32/AC is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 optical/copper hybrid cable that provides high-speed data connectivity between USB-A hosts and USB-C devices. This cable delivers up to 10 Gbps throughput over a 164ft length while maintaining signal integrity through a combined fiber and copper construction. The design is optimized for long-reach data transfer where traditional copper-only cables cannot reliably operate.
Key features include true plug-and-play operation with no additional drivers required and no external power supply needed because the cable draws power from the USB source where applicable. The hybrid construction uses fiber for the bulk of the data path and copper conductors for connector interfaces and limited power delivery. Backward compatibility is provided for USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and USB 1.1 over shorter distances.
Technical performance is centered on USB 3.2 Gen 2 signaling and a maximum data rate of 10 Gbps when both host and device support USB 3.2 Gen 2. The cable uses a 2 channel OM2 850 nm VCSEL array for the optical segments and bare copper for electrical portions. Mechanical ratings include crush and tensile resistances plus a minimum bending radius to support installation in structured cabling environments.
Connectivity options are straightforward: a USB 3.2 Type-A male connector at one end and a USB 3.2 Type-C male connector at the other end. The cable is intended for data transfer only and does not support charging or USB-C Alternate Mode signaling. It is recommended that remote devices be self-powered when required to operate.
Typical use cases include long-reach camera feeds, webcams, printers, speakerphones, capture devices, and other USB peripherals that require reliable high-speed data over distances beyond standard copper limits. The product is suited to AV installations, conference rooms, broadcasting rigs, and any application where extended USB data runs are needed without signal degradation. The cable is offered in multiple lengths and versions to match system needs.
Installation is plug-and-play and does not require special drivers or external power supplies in most use cases – however designers should plan for self-powered endpoints when devices require significant current. The cable features robust mechanical specifications including defined crush and tensile strengths and a small 4.8mm diameter for easier routing. Regulatory compliance includes CE and FCC and environmental compliance includes RoHS and REACH to support professional deployments.
