The CM31-EZ is a 3 inch in-ceiling full-range speaker designed to deliver clear voice and music reproduction in both residential and commercial environments. It features an integrated backcan and compact visible footprint so it installs cleanly in tight ceiling spaces. The speaker is available in black or white finishes to match decor.
The CM31-EZ includes a 3 inch polypropylene driver with a butyl rubber surround and weatherized components for indoor and outdoor covered applications. A six-position tap selector that includes a transformer bypass position supports distributed audio systems on 25/70.7/100 volt lines. The grille is corrosion-resistant, powder-coated aluminum and snaps into place for a low-profile appearance.
Performance is tuned for clear midrange and vocal articulation with measured sensitivity of 85.0 dB and a -3 dB frequency response of 218 Hz to 14 kHz. Power handling is rated at 20 W continuous RMS and 40 W program power, yielding a calculated maximum SPL of 98.0 dB at 1 m. Coverage is broad in the speech band with averaged directivity of approximately 4.5 Q and a 120 degree averaged coverage from 2 to 10 kHz.
Connections are via a hardwire lead for secure wiring to amplifiers or distributed audio transformers. The six-position rotary tap selector provides selectable transformer taps or transformer bypass for 8 ohm operation. The included tile bridge and conduit connector enable compliance with typical ceiling infrastructure and plenum considerations when required.
Typical applications include background music and paging in retail spaces, offices, classrooms and hospitality areas where compact ceiling speakers are required. The CM31-EZ is suitable for low-profile installations where speech intelligibility and unobtrusive appearance are priorities. Weatherized components also permit use in covered outdoor locations such as patios and atriums.
Installation is straightforward using the constant-tension SpeedWing mounting system that secures the speaker to wall or ceiling thicknesses from 0.1 in to 1.5 in. The shallow 3.5 inch backcan and integrated baffle minimize required plenum depth while maintaining a robust steel enclosure. The CM31-EZ is UL 1480 and 2043 listed and CE and RoHS approved for professional installations.
