The CM31-EZ is a compact 3 inch in-ceiling full-range speaker designed to deliver clear voice and music playback in commercial and residential environments. It provides 8 ohm direct-drive operation and a transformer bypass for distributed audio systems. The unit combines a shallow backcan and integrated driver for minimal ceiling intrusion.
Key features include a 3 inch polypropylene driver with butyl rubber surround, weatherized components for indoor/outdoor installations, and a corrosion-resistant powder-coated aluminum grille. The speaker includes a six-position tap selector with transformer bypass and a low visible bezel with a 6.3 inch diameter footprint. A tile bridge and SpeedWing mounting hardware are supplied for rapid installation.
Performance specifications include 85 dB sensitivity (2.83 V/1 m and 1 W/1 m), a frequency response rated at 218 Hz to 14 kHz (-3 dB) and extended response to 135 Hz – 22 kHz (-10 dB). Power handling is rated 20 W RMS continuous and 40 W program, producing a maximum SPL of 98 dB at 1 m. Directivity and coverage are tuned for wide area speech intelligibility and background music distribution.
Connectivity is via a hardwire lead and the speaker supports both 8 ohm systems and constant-voltage 25/70.7/100 V installations when used with the transformer taps. The integrated backcan measures 5.5 in diameter and 3.5 in depth to fit shallow plenums and tight ceiling cavities. Available finishes include white or black paint options to match common ceiling decor.
Typical applications include paging and background music in retail stores, offices, restaurants and atriums where discreet ceiling speakers and speech clarity are required. The weatherized components make the CM31-EZ suitable for semi-exposed or covered outdoor ceilings. It is also compatible with optional pre-construction brackets and powered subwoofer add-ons for extended low frequency coverage.
Installation is simplified by the SpeedWing fixed-wing mounting system supporting wall/ceiling thicknesses from 0.1 in to 1.5 in and a shallow 3.5 in backcan depth. The grille is snap-fit for quick finishing and the package includes a tile bridge, conduit connector, paint mask and wire nuts. UL and CE approvals provide regulatory compliance for commercial deployments.
