Description
The D-TPS7A is a passive single-pair audio transmitter designed for Format-A twisted-pair systems. It accepts an unbalanced stereo line input on a 3.5mm mini-jack and converts it to a mono signal suitable for distribution over a single Format-A TP cable pair. The transmitter provides galvanic isolation via a studio-quality transformer and requires no power to operate.
The module features a rear-panel switch to select which RJ45 pair is driven – A, B, or C – allowing flexible integration into multi-pair Format-A installations. Stereo consumer-level inputs are summed to mono and fed through the transformer for noise rejection and source isolation. Signal and any present cable power are passed through the TP CABLE jacks to downstream modules when required.
Performance is tailored for audio applications with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz ±0.5 dB and very low distortion across the audio band. Input sensitivity is compatible with consumer sources at -10 dBV while surviving higher levels up to +22 dBu. The passive topology eliminates power-related noise and simplifies deployment in distributed systems.
Connectivity is provided via a front-panel 3.5mm mini-jack input and RJ45 TP CABLE jacks for Format-A signals. The D-TPS7A can be daisychained with other single-pair senders or combined with two-pair senders so long as each sender uses a different cable pair. The unit maintains Format-A compatibility for seamless integration with RDL receivers and other Format-A modules.
Typical applications include sending consumer stereo sources to a central processor or amplifier in commercial audio, background music distribution, and linking remote source devices to mic or line level Format-A receivers. The passive transmitter is suitable where isolation and simplicity are preferred over powered electronics. It is useful in studios, retail environments, hospitality venues, and AV racks where Format-A cabling is already deployed.
Installation is straightforward – set the rear-panel pair selector, connect the mini-jack source, and plug the Format-A TP CABLE RJ45 connector. No power hookup is required, and the compact chassis simplifies mounting in racks or enclosures near source devices. The transformer-isolated input preserves signal integrity and protects downstream equipment from ground loops and noise.
