Description
The DS-SH1 is a panel-mount stereo headphone amplifier designed to drive headphones of any impedance from consumer or professional audio sources. It provides user level control on the front panel and mounts in a precut opening or compatible Decora accessories. The front panel offers a durable control and a standard 1/4 inch metal headphone jack for reliable daily use.
Key features include balanced/unbalanced left and right inputs, switch-selectable input sensitivity, and a mono/stereo mode switch. Two recessed slide switches on the rear set input sensitivity and operation mode prior to mounting. The front panel level control uses matched VCAs so audio does not pass through the control, ensuring noise-free adjustment.
Inputs accept operating levels between -20 dBV and +20 dBu and the module accommodates nominal input levels of +4 dBu (low sensitivity) or -15 dBV (high sensitivity). Maximum input levels are +21 dBu at low sensitivity and +3 dBu at high sensitivity. Output capability is up to 50 mW into 100 ohm with a normal rated output of 10 mW into 100 ohm, THD+N under 0.5% at 1 kHz, and a frequency response of 30 Hz to 20 kHz ±2 dB.
Connectivity includes balanced or unbalanced left/right inputs and a standard 1/4 inch metal headphone jack for outputs. The module operates from a ground-referenced 24 Vdc supply at 50 mA, and can operate from 12 Vdc with approximately 6 dB less headroom and a reduced maximum output of 10 mW. The unit also features recessed controls to prevent accidental switching after installation.
The DS-SH1 is well suited to language translation booths, museum audio stations, interview studios, and retail audio demonstration racks where compact, panel-mounted headphone drive is required. It reliably drives both high- and low-impedance headsets and supports mono operation using the left input when required. The long-life control and metal jack construction support repeated use in public or professional environments.
Installation is straightforward: set the input sensitivity and mode via the recessed slide switches, mount the module in a precut panel, wire left and right inputs as needed, and supply 24 Vdc ground-referenced power. The stainless front and durable metal jack provide robust mechanical reliability and the VCA-based level control eliminates wear-related noise. This combination of features yields a low-noise, user-adjustable panel headphone amplifier that integrates cleanly into AV installations.
