Description
The FP-ALC1 is a single-channel automatic level control module designed to deliver consistent mono audio levels from professional sources that have varying output levels. It uses split-band AGC and gated control to maintain transparent audio while preventing level seeking. The compact FLAT-PAK form factor simplifies integration into rack systems and audio enclosures.
Key features include split-band AGC for improved audio transparency, a single front-panel gain adjustment for quick setup, and a gated control to avoid level hunting. The unit offers more than 20 dB of level control range and self-adjusting attack and release times for hands-off operation. An INPUT OVERLOAD indicator provides visual feedback during setup and operation.
Performance is specified for professional installations: nominal +4 dBu input and output levels, an automatic level range of -16 to +14 dBu, and THD+N below 0.15% across the audio band. Frequency response excluding AGC is 20 Hz to 20 kHz (± 0.75 dB) and noise is specified below -90 dB relative to +4 dBu output. The device provides greater than 18 dB of headroom to preserve transients and dynamics.
Connectivity is via a detachable terminal block for input and output and the FP-ALC1 supports balanced bridging inputs or unbalanced connections where required. Power may be supplied through the full-size barrier block or the DC jack using a ground-referenced 24 Vdc supply at 80 mA. The module includes a single INPUT OVERLOAD indicator for monitoring input clipping.
Typical applications include paging outputs from telephone systems, music-on-hold feeds, background or foreground amplifier inputs in sound systems, and voice feeds in communications or intercom systems. The FP-ALC1 stabilizes levels across multiple sources such as CD changers, satellite receivers, and paging consoles. Its transparent AGC preserves intelligibility and musical quality in spoken-word and music content.
Installation is straightforward: set the single gain control as high as possible without triggering the INPUT OVERLOAD indicator and no further adjustments are normally required. The self-adjusting attack and release times and split-band topology reduce audible pumping and artifacts. The unit is specified to operate in ambient environments from 0 C to 55 C and ships in RDL FLAT-PAK packaging for convenient deployment.
