Description
The FP-DFC2 is a compact digital audio format converter designed to translate consumer SPDIF and AES-3ID signals into professional AES/EBU output. It accepts coaxial, phono and optical SPDIF inputs and provides a transformer-isolated AES/EBU balanced XLR output. The unit supports up to 24-bit resolution and 192 kHz sample rates for high-fidelity transfers.
Key features include Sure-Lok auto-recovery that monitors and reinitializes digital lock after signal interruptions, automatic sample rate detection and full header information translation from SPDIF to AES/EBU. The electrical output is transformer isolated to prevent ground loops and ensure clean signal transfer. A front-panel LOCK LED indicates valid input lock status at a glance.
Technically the FP-DFC2 operates from 32 kHz to 192 kHz sample rates and supports 16 to 24 bit resolution. It conforms to IEC958, SPDIF, EIAJ CP-340/1201 and AES3-1992 Amendment 3-1999 standards. Power requirement is 24 Vdc at 30 mA ground-referenced and the unit provides a daisy-chain power interconnect for multiple Flat-Pak modules.
Connectivity options include three selectable digital inputs: phono (RCA) SPDIF, BNC SPDIF (or AES-3ID) and optical TOSLINK, plus an AES/EBU XLR output. The top-panel jacks simplify access in rack or shelf installations while end-panel DC jacks allow chained power to additional Flat-Pak modules. The output reproduces all header information common to both formats rather than a subset of metadata.
Typical applications include integrating consumer digital sources into professional AES/EBU chains, translating broadcast feeds to studio equipment and providing format conversion in equipment racks where space is limited. The FP-DFC2 is suited for live sound, broadcast, post-production and installation environments where stable digital lock and format integrity are required. The transformer-isolated output and Sure-Lok recovery enhance reliability in mixed-signal systems.
Installation is straightforward – the Flat-Pak case mounts to cabinets or shelves and optional rack adapters allow single or multiple module mounting. The unit’s small footprint permits placement in confined spaces and the supplied power interconnect cable simplifies powering multiple modules. RDL built-in recovery and isolation features provide robust long-term operation in professional environments.
