Description
The FP-UBC6 is a 6-channel unbalanced to balanced audio converter designed to convert consumer-level unbalanced signals to professional balanced outputs. It accepts unbalanced phono inputs and provides balanced XLR outputs for integration into professional audio systems. The module is available in RDL FLAT-PAKs format for cabinet, shelf or rack mounting.
This unit features six identical channels each with a dedicated gain trim potentiometer for per-channel level matching. The normal trim setting yields a +4 dBu balanced output from a -10 dBV unbalanced input and the gain range is adjustable from -5 dB to +10 dB. Gold-plated phono input jacks and gold-plated XLR output pins ensure reliable connectors and low contact resistance.
Performance specifications include a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz (+- 0.25 dB), THD+N below 0.05% typical 0.01% at 1 kHz, and IMD below 0.02%. Noise is rated below -90 dB referred to +4 dBu and crosstalk is better than 80 dB across the audio band. Output impedance is 150 O balanced and the outputs can drive 600 O or 10 kO lines.
Connectivity is straightforward: six unbalanced phono jacks for inputs and six balanced XLR jacks for outputs, all connectorized for quick installation. Power is ground-referenced 24 Vdc and the unit draws nominal current as specified for FLAT-PAK modules. The converter supports balanced or unbalanced output wiring to match downstream equipment requirements.
Typical applications include converting 6-channel consumer surround outputs to professional balanced lines for recording, broadcast, or live sound systems. It is suitable for OB vans, postproduction suites, and installed audio systems that require reliable level matching and noise rejection. The per-channel gain control simplifies integration with varied consumer-level source levels.
The FP-UBC6 is built for pro AV environments with low-noise circuitry and low distortion components to maintain audio integrity. Installation is simplified by the FLAT-PAK format for cabinet, shelf or rack mounting and by connectorized inputs and outputs. The unit’s robust electrical performance and precise gain control provide dependable operation in professional workflows.
