The AJA FS2-R1 is a 1RU dual-channel frame synchronizer and format converter designed to manage and align multiple HD/SD video sources. It accepts a wide range of analog and digital inputs and provides high-quality up/down/cross-conversion to match formats and frame rates. This compact rack unit consolidates two processors into a single chassis to save rack space and simplify system architecture.
The FS2-R1 features two independent 10-bit broadcast-quality video processors and two 16-channel audio processors that can operate independently or be combined for advanced workflows. Key capabilities include up-conversion, down-conversion, and cross-conversion between SD and HD formats, plus simultaneous routing to multiple outputs. The internal crosspoint routing allows any input to be assigned to either processor for flexible signal management.
Performance specifications include support for 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI, HDMI I/O, analog component inputs/outputs, and optional fiber 3G-SDI modules for long-distance links up to 10 kilometers. Audio support covers 16-channel embedded SDI audio, 16-channel AES/EBU, and 8-channel balanced analog I/O with internal sample rate conversion. Image scaling, cropping and aspect handling are implemented in hardware to maintain broadcast-quality results during conversions.
Connectivity is comprehensive: dual 3G-SDI inputs and outputs, optional dual fiber 3G-SDI, HD component YPbPr I/O, HDMI I/O, AES analog breakout via 25-pin cable, and reference I/O. Remote control is available via an embedded web server over 10/100/1000 Ethernet and SNMP monitoring, and GPI ports enable simple automation triggers. Front panel controls and an alphanumeric display provide local configuration and status monitoring.
Typical applications include mobile production trucks, broadcast machine rooms, OB vans, and live event systems where high-density format conversion and reliable frame sync are required.
