Description
The HR-UDC1 is a digital audio converter designed to translate between professional AES/EBU and consumer S/PDIF formats. It accepts multiple digital input formats and provides selectable digital outputs to match target systems. The unit is built to maintain signal integrity during format conversion and re-clocking.
Key features include auto-detection of active inputs across optical, coaxial and balanced AES interfaces and selectable outputs to AES/EBU, S/PDIF coaxial or optical, or AES-3ID. The converter supports up to 24-bit resolution and sample rates from 32 kHz to 192 kHz. Transformer isolation on AES inputs and outputs adds protection and improved grounding performance.
Digital signal processing in the HR-UDC1 performs decoding, reclocking and retransmission while preserving sampling frequency and emphasis bits between standards. Front-panel LEDs indicate input format, sample rate and lock status to aid diagnostics. The device incorporates Sure-Lok auto-recovery supervision to reinitiate lock in the event of latch-up conditions.
Connectivity covers AES/EBU XLR, S/PDIF optical, S/PDIF coaxial phono and AES-3ID BNC on both input and output sides. The output format is user-selectable via a rear-panel selector that enables the appropriate physical connector and electrical format. Coaxial and AES-3ID paths are 75 Ohm terminated while AES/EBU is 110 Ohm terminated.
Typical applications include studio format conversion, distribution between consumer and professional equipment, and integration in broadcast facilities where mixed digital audio formats are present. The HR-UDC1 is suitable for mastering suites, post-production racks and signal routing closets where reliable format translation is required. It provides visible status feedback to simplify troubleshooting during live or scheduled operations.
Installation is straightforward with a detachable terminal-block or barrel power input accepting 24 Vdc and a front-panel power switch to control operation. The compact enclosure and transformer isolation simplify integration into existing racks and grounding schemes. The unit is engineered for stable continuous operation in professional environments and includes clear indicators to verify proper operation.
