Description
The KA7168 is an HDMI USB KVM adapter cable that connects a KVM switch to a target computer using HDMI video and USB data links. It provides virtual media capability and integrates a Smart Card/CAC reader via USB. The compact form factor and lightweight housing make it easy to deploy in rack environments and secure workstations.
Key features include Auto Signal Compensation (ASC) for simplified distance handling and built-in keyboard and mouse emulation to preserve server I/O when endpoints are disconnected or moved. The unit uses an integrated ASIC for improved compatibility and reliability, and it supports lifetime firmware upgrades to maintain long-term interoperability. A CPU module design supports automatic conversion between PS/2 and USB interfaces to manage PC, Mac, and Sun systems.
Technically, the KA7168 provides an HDMI male video connection and two USB Type A male connectors – one for device control and one for the Smart Card/CAC reader – plus an RJ-45 link port for the KVM connection. LED indicators show online status (green) and power (orange). The adapter measures 9.10 x 5.60 x 2.12 cm and weighs approximately 0.10 kg, offering a compact footprint for constrained spaces.
Connectivity covers HDMI video output and USB device interfaces, with virtual media support and a CAC reader exposed over USB. Note that virtual media and CAC reader functions are not supported on certain KVM models listed by the manufacturer, so verify switch compatibility prior to deployment. The adapter is designed to work across common server platforms including PC, Mac, and Sun architectures.
The KA7168 is suitable for secure access and administrative tasks in data centers, control rooms, and government facilities that require CAC authentication and remote media mounting. Its small size and plug-and-play behavior reduce setup time when adding or relocating servers. The ASC and delay skew compensation technologies help preserve video integrity across varying cable lengths.
Installation is straightforward – plug the HDMI and USB connectors into the target computer and attach the RJ-45 link to the KVM infrastructure. The plastic housing and integrated ASIC provide durable everyday performance while firmware updates keep the unit current. Overall, the KA7168 offers a compact, reliable solution for KVM extension with virtual media and smart card capabilities.
