Description
The KA8280 HDMI KVM over IP Console Station is a standalone hardware console that replaces a PC or notebook and delivers remote access, monitoring and control of servers connected to compatible ATEN KVM over IP switches. It provides secure, Java-free access and consolidates multi-switch management under a single sign-on flow. The unit is designed for deployment where immediate access and strict security are required.
Key capabilities include a Full HD 1920 x 1200 HDMI video output, support for Virtual Media over USB, and an advanced FPGA graphics processor to ensure reliable video rendering. The Console Station supports Panel Array Mode – enabling simultaneous monitoring of up to 64 servers on a single screen. The hardware-based design reduces attack surface and prevents virus propagation compared with general purpose PCs.
Performance-wise the KA8280 supports 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz video output and low power consumption via a 5 V DC supply. The unit provides physical indicators and push-button controls for power and reset functions. The metal housing and compact 0U rear rack form factor make the device suitable for rack installations and constrained equipment rooms.
Connectivity includes one HDMI video output, one RJ-45 LAN port, one RJ-45 cascade port, one DB-9 RS-232 port, two audio jacks, two USB Type-A ports for Virtual Media plus additional USB ports for keyboard and mouse. The Console Station is compatible with a defined list of ATEN KVM over IP switches and requires those switches to run firmware v1.6.151 or later to enable full functionality. Network and peripheral interfaces support standard cabling and connectors used in broadcast and data center environments.
Typical applications include studios, broadcast control rooms, data centers, offices and network operations centers where secure remote console access and multi-server monitoring are needed. Panel Array Mode is specifically useful for surveillance and manufacturing environments that require multi-port preview and simultaneous visual monitoring. Single sign-on and centralized management simplify workflows in multi-switch deployments.
Installation is straightforward – the unit can sit on a desk, be wall mounted using the included kit or be mounted at the rear of a rack using its 0U design. The GUI provides multi-language support and streamlined profile configuration for large-scale rollouts. Built for reliability, the KA8280 combines compact mechanical design with simple management tools to minimize deployment time and ongoing administration overhead.
