Description
The KDS-17EN is a 4K60 4:4:4 AVoIP encoder designed to stream pristine video and multi-format audio over Ethernet or fiber. It encodes HDMI video into a visually lossless stream and supports Dante audio, USB-over-IP, IR, RS-232 and CEC control. This unit is intended to deliver low-latency, high-fidelity AV transport suitable for enterprise and mission-critical installations.
Key features include support for 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 video, HDR10 up to 4K30 4:2:2 12-bit, HDCP 1.4 and 2.3, and a proprietary visually lossless codec. The device supports Dante digital audio channels, LPCM up to 7.1/24-bit/192kHz, Dolby and DTS formats, and bidirectional USB 3.0 connectivity. It also provides IR and RS-232 control passthrough plus CEC handling for integrated device control.
Performance specifications specify peak bitrate capability and average streaming rates for common resolutions – peak 850 Mbps, typical 4K average 350 Mbps, typical 1080p average 250 Mbps – making the encoder bandwidth-efficient for large-scale deployments. The unit supports multicast UDP with IGMP snooping and unicast UDP, and provides SFP for fiber connectivity when required. AES256 encryption is available for AV streams and the unit supports HTTPS and 802.1x authentication for secure management.
Connectivity is comprehensive – a single HDMI input and output, RJ-45 Ethernet port, SFP slot for fiber or copper transceiver modules, balanced audio via 5-pin terminal block, RS-232 via 3-pin terminal block, IR via 3.5mm TRS, and USB-B host plus two USB-A device ports. EDID management includes passthrough, output resolution, predefined default EDIDs and custom EDID uploads. Front panel LCD and status LEDs provide local monitoring and navigation, while control options include embedded web UI and P3K API over Ethernet.
Typical applications include command and control rooms, large AV distribution systems in corporate or government campuses, education facilities, and low-latency KM/KVM systems. The encoder is designed to integrate into existing IT infrastructure with minimal network impact and simplified switch configuration. Its combination of fiber and copper options, Dante audio, and USB-over-IP make it suitable for wide-area AV deployments and distributed collaboration environments.
Installation and operation are streamlined – the unit supports PoE+ power or an optional 20V DC supply, and it uses convection cooling in an aluminum enclosure for reliable passive thermal performance. Firmware and configuration are managed via web UI or API, and the compact Mega Tool Deep form factor simplifies rack or shelf placement. The KDS-17EN is built for long-term AV system integration and scalable deployment across multiple rooms or sites.
