Description
The AJA KONA 5 ATX power card is a professional PCIe capture and output solution designed for high-resolution broadcast and post production workflows. It provides bidirectional 12G-SDI I/O and a full-size HDMI 2.0 output for monitoring and program output. The card supports high frame rate 4K/UltraHD, HDR and deep color workflows while delivering reliable card-level I/O control.
KONA 5 supports 10-bit 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 color spaces and offers 12-bit color where the application supports it. The card provides four bidirectional SDI connectors that can operate as single 12G, 6G, 3G or quad 3G configurations and an HDMI 2.0 output that supports HDR10 and HLG metadata. This combination enables simultaneous capture and monitoring, multichannel ingest, and high frame rate monitoring up to 4K60 depending on host software.
Performance specifications include support for 4K/UltraHD up to 50/60 fps and comprehensive HD and SD formats listed in the technical specifications. The card accepts embedded SDI audio up to 16 channels and supports 8-channel AES/EBU via the included breakout cable. The PCIe interface uses an 8-lane connection and the card consumes approximately 22W typical power and 24W maximum.
Connectivity is extensive and purpose-built for professional systems integration – four bidirectional 12G-SDI ports, a full-size HDMI 2.0 monitor output, reference input, LTC in/out and RS-422 control. The included breakout cable provides AES inputs and outputs plus a 9-pin RS-422 connector for machine control. macOS, Windows and Linux drivers are supported, and HDR metadata follows HDMI 2.0a/CTA-861.3 and related CTA specifications where supported by the application.
KONA 5 is suited to a wide range of real-world applications such as offline and online finishing, live compositing, virtual set workflows and broadcast ingest. It supports HDR10 and HLG passing to HDMI monitors and allows simultaneous SDI capture and monitoring for live production workflows. The card’s low latency and precise timecode and reference handling make it suitable for multi-card systems and larger studio environments.
Installation is straightforward in standard ATX PC systems where the ATX power variant supplies required rails; the card measures 0.75 inch x 6.9 inch x 5.0 inch and weighs approximately 0.7 lb. External connectivity is extended via the supplied breakout cable to expose AES, LTC and RS-422. The board is built to professional tolerances and integrates into macOS, Windows and Linux production systems using AJA drivers and SDKs.
