Description
The KONA 5 PCIe capture and I/O card delivers bidirectional 12G-SDI I/O and full-size HDMI 2.0 output for modern video production. This card is designed to handle 4K/UltraHD, 2K/HD and SD sources at high frame rates while preserving high color fidelity. It installs in an 8-lane PCIe slot and offers the connectivity required for capture, monitoring and pass-through workflows.
KONA 5 supports 10-bit 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 color, and application-dependent 12-bit color paths for demanding imagery. The HDMI 2.0 output supports HDR10 metadata and HLG where the host application enables it. High frame rate 4K/UltraHD up to 50/60 fps is supported via single 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI or quad 3G-SDI inputs or outputs.
Technically the card supports a broad range of video formats including DCI 4K, UltraHD, 2K, multiple HD and SD formats and specific PsF and HSDL modes. Digital I/O handles SMPTE-259/292/296/424/425 signals at 8-, 10- and 12-bit depths where applications allow. The board also includes 1D LUT support and a downstream keyer for graphics with alpha channels.
Connectivity includes four bidirectional 12G-SDI BNCs, a full-size HDMI 2.0 output, a reference input, LTC in/out and an included breakout cable providing AES/EBU audio and RS-422 control. The breakout exposes 8-channel AES inputs and outputs and an RS-422 9-pin control port for machine control and deck communication. macOS, Windows and Linux drivers are supported by AJA software and third-party applications.
KONA 5 is suited to post production, broadcast ingest, live compositing, virtual sets and graphics playback environments where high color accuracy and HFR are required. Its bidirectional SDI ports allow simultaneous capture and monitoring or passthrough while the HDMI port provides direct HDR-capable monitoring. The card locks to external reference and passes timecode via LTC to ensure frame-accurate capture.
Installation is straightforward in systems with an 8-lane PCIe slot and adequate power and cooling. The card consumes 22W typical and supports operating temperatures from 0 to 40 C. KONA 5 is built to integrate into professional workflows and to provide reliable capture and playback performance over a wide range of formats.
