Description
The SM400i is a 4-inch coaxial surface-mount speaker engineered to deliver clear full-range audio in indoor and outdoor environments. It uses a coaxial driver arrangement and a ported enclosure to extend low-frequency response while maintaining compact dimensions. The enclosure and grille are weatherized to allow dependable operation in exposed locations – making the SM400i a discreet architectural audio solution.
Key features include a 4 inch polypropylene woofer and a 1 inch convex titanium tweeter mounted on a BroadBeam waveguide to preserve consistent dispersion up to 10 kHz. The speaker includes a five-position weather-proof tap switch that supports 25V, 70.7V and 100V transformer taps plus a transformer bypass position. Port plugs and weatherized components improve resistance to moisture and contaminants.
Performance specifications include a nominal impedance of 4 ohm, sensitivity of 85.5 dB @ 2.83V/1 m and a rated frequency response of 97 Hz to 22 kHz (-3 dB). Maximum continuous RMS power is 20 W with a 35 W program rating and a maximum SPL of 95.5 dB at 1 m. Directional characteristics are specified as 125 degrees average coverage from 2 to 10 kHz, providing broad and uniform coverage.
Connectivity is provided via a four-pin 5.08 mm Euroblock for individual or daisy-chain wiring. The included Stealth U-bracket provides corrosion and theft resistance and allows tool-free, theft-resistant mounting using one-way fasteners. Horizontal and vertical aiming is supported with 0 to 90 degree horizontal adjustment to target listening areas precisely.
Typical applications include background music and paging in hospitality, retail, and outdoor covered areas where compact, weather-resistant speakers are required. The consistent dispersion and ported low end make the SM400i suitable for distributed audio systems where coverage uniformity and intelligibility are priorities. It is CE and UL 1480 (UEAY) approved for compliance in professional installations.
Installation and maintenance are simplified by the included tamper-resistant hardware, Euroblock connector, terminal weather boot and paint mask. The injection-molded ABS enclosure and powder-coated aluminum grille provide durability and long-term aesthetic stability. Overall, the SM400i balances compact form factor with specification-driven acoustic performance – offering integrators an easy-to-install surface-mount speaker option.
