Description
The SM890i-WX-BK is an 8-inch surface-mount high-SPL loudspeaker engineered for distributed audio and sound reinforcement applications. It combines an 8.00 inch treated fiber woofer and a high-power compression horn to deliver clear foreground music and intelligible speech. The enclosure supports both 8 ohm direct drive and a low-insertion-loss 150-watt transformer for 25/70.7/100-volt systems – transformer bypass available.
Key features include a BroadBeamHP waveguide for consistent dispersion and edge-to-edge coverage, a rotatable bayonet-mounted horn for tailored dispersion, and a six-position tap switch for easy selection of nominal taps. The transducer complement pairs a 203 mm treated-paper low-frequency driver with a 36 mm titanium compression high-frequency driver for high output and clarity. WeatherX technology and corrosion-resistant materials extend reliability in indoor and outdoor installations.
Performance specifications include a frequency response of 100 Hz to 22 kHz (-3 dB) and a maximum continuous RMS power rating of 150 W with 300 W program power capability. Sensitivity is 93 dB at 1 W/1 m and maximum SPL is 115 dB at 1 m, enabling short- to medium-throw coverage for PA and reinforcement. Directivity and coverage are tightly controlled – nominal 110° vertical by 80° horizontal averaged across key speech frequencies.
Connectivity is provided via a four-pin 5.08 mm Euroblock input allowing individual connection or daisy chaining of multiple units. The six-position rotary tap selector offers 25/70.7/100-volt settings plus a transformer bypass position for low-impedance applications. The speaker is UL 1480 (UEAY) listed and available in black or white finishes to match site aesthetics.
Typical applications include foreground music systems, small-to-medium venue PA, retail and hospitality sound reinforcement, and outdoor covered spaces where intelligibility and controlled coverage are required. The SM890i’s BroadBeamHP waveguide and compression driver combination deliver consistent speech clarity across listening areas. Its power handling and transformer options make it suitable for both centralized constant-voltage systems and amplifier-driven deployments.
Installation is simplified by the low-profile Stealth mounting bracket that provides tool-free aiming from 0 to 90 degrees and a bayonet-mounted rotatable horn for 110° x 85° dispersion adjustment. The enclosure and grille use corrosion-resistant materials and all-aluminum hardware for long-term durability in exposed environments. Maintenance and aiming are straightforward, reducing onsite labor and facilitating fast commissioning.
