Description
The Panamax SP8-AV is a dedicated surge protector designed to safeguard audio/video systems from voltage spikes arriving via AC power, telephone and coax lines. It provides eight AC outlets with transformer spacing to accommodate bulky plugs while delivering surge suppression and EMI/RFI noise filtration. The SP8-AV uses Protect-or-Disconnect(TM) circuitry to disconnect power under catastrophic surge conditions to prevent downstream damage.
Key features include a power status LED and Ground OK indicator to confirm protection and grounding integrity. The unit provides in/out telephone connectors and in/out coax connectors for cable and satellite feeds to block surge entry through signal lines. A 6 ft fixed power cord with a right angle 45 degree offset plug and an integrated 15A circuit breaker with an on/off switch complete the physical feature set.
Technically the SP8-AV offers a 500V UL 1449 (3rd Edition, 3,000A) voltage protection rating and a single pulse energy dissipation rating of 1125 Joules. Response time is < 1 ns and peak impulse current capability is rated at 60,000 Amps. EMI/RFI noise filtration is specified at 45 dB across 100 kHz - 1 MHz for cleaner signal integrity.
Connectivity includes eight AC outlets, RJ-11 telephone connectors and female F-type gold plated coax connections supporting bi-directional signals. Coaxial protection is shielded and HD 1080 i/p ready across OMHz – 2.2 GHz with insertion loss < 0.5 dB. Telco protection is fuseless and auto-resetting with a clamping level of 260V and approximately 30 pF capacitance.
Common use cases include home theater systems, A/V racks and media rooms where combined power and signal line protection is required. It protects set top boxes, receivers, amplifiers and displays from surge events that can travel over AC, phone or cable connections. The Protect-or-Disconnect(TM) topology adds an extra layer of safety in lightning-prone or unstable electrical environments.
Installation is straightforward and designed for rack shelf or tabletop placement; the right angle offset plug helps clear wall receptacles and tight spaces. Status LEDs and a simple on/off switch make monitoring and operation immediate and intuitive. The unit is built for reliable operation and integration into existing A/V systems without complex configuration.
