Description
The TX-AVX is a 2×1 automatic BNC video switcher designed to provide seamless switchover between a primary and auxiliary composite video source. It continuously monitors the primary INPUT for valid NTSC or PAL sync and switches to the AUX INPUT automatically when the primary signal is lost. The unit uses a high-quality RF relay to ensure a clean mechanical connection and reliable signal routing.
Key features include detection of valid video sync, support for both NTSC and PAL formats, and a dry-contact slave output for external alerting. The module detects signals as low as 0.5 V p-p and tolerates input levels up to 1 V p-p. It also ignores 50 Hz and 60 Hz hum and related induction artifacts to reduce false switching events.
Technical performance is centered on reliable sync-based detection and relay switching. The INPUT jack is 75 Ohm terminated and the OUTPUT is designed for connection to a 75 Ohm load. Relay contacts are single-pole/single-throw and the maximum switching power is 60 W rated at 220 Vdc, 125 Vac, 2 A. A SLAVE terminal provides a ground connection when a valid input is present so the unit can function as a video-present detector.
Connectivity is straightforward with BNC video connectors for INPUT, AUX INPUT, and OUTPUT, all ground-referenced. The AUX INPUT is terminated only when switched to the OUTPUT and remains unterminated when not in use. The SLAVE terminal provides a dry-contact style interface for integration with RDL BZR Alert Modules or other monitoring systems.
Common applications include security and CCTV systems where automatic failover is required, broadcast monitoring racks for backup source selection, and AV installations that require unattended source supervision. The unit is particularly useful where uninterrupted video continuity and simple relay-based notification are needed. It is compact and suitable for distributed equipment closets or camera junction boxes.
Installation and power options are flexible – the TX-AVX is ground-referenced and accepts 12 to 33 Vdc or 12 to 24 Vac at 100 mA. The module operates in ambient environments from 0 C to 55 C and ships in a compact cardboard box sized 2 x 2 x 4 in. Its relay-based switching and simple BNC wiring provide a low-maintenance solution for professional AV and security deployments.
